ScarlettsWeb Bio
In an era when image wins out over substance all too often, leave it to New York City to come to the rescue, by way of a female-fronted Rock and Roll band: ScarlettsWeb.
On their debut album, ironically titled “Greatest Hits”, ScarlettsWeb combines epic rock-riffage with infectious hooks and punk rock attitude for a raw, honest, and real sound that is at once universal and completely their own.
When asked why such a pretty, intelligent girl would choose to enter the rough and often ugly world where Rock and Roll historically resides, Scarlett (the band's lead singer) responded, "Music is representative of life in so many ways. If I were to be afraid of the 'ugly' side of it, how would I ever live in this world, especially in my generation, in the first place? We use all of our experiences, good and bad, to create our eclectic and driven sound. Sure, life can be a downer, but if we're going down anyway, let's go down kicking and screaming at the top of our lungs about what a great time we're having!"
ScarlettsWeb certainly is the living example for this statement.
The way in which "ScarlettsWeb" came to be was a series of fortunate events which seemed preordained. It all began at a studio on West 57th Street in Manhattan, New York. At that time, it was really just a girl with quite a name to live up to: "Scarlett". She had been pursuing her career as a singer/songwriter through various different mediums in the world of music and found herself knocking on a door belonging to the two people who would become her two biggest allies in this pursuit:
Producer Ali Dee (The Grand Skeem, Eric B. and Rakim, Busta Rhymes, Big Daddy Kane, O-Town, Mr. Jones, Sarai, Juice)
Songwriter/Guitarist Vin Alfieri (The Smashup, The Grand Skeem, O-Town, Mr. Jones, Sarai).
Within just a year they would become a dynamic trio with well over 40 songs written and recorded out of their closet/vocal-booth, and a revolutionary album ready to descend upon the world.
"I'll never forget the first time I walked into the studio - Ali was there at the computer, blonde spiked hair and all, and Vin, the not-so-quiet genius, was perched in the corner, guitar in hand," Scarlett recalls. "I know it might sound cliché, but I felt like I was home. A few blackmail-worthy vocal takes from the closet, endless rehearsals, a thousand sushi rolls, a ton of road trips, too many malls, a multitude of mayhem, excessive expletives, and a lot of laughs later...here we are."
Their team expanded further when Sandy Linzer (Smash Mouth, Whitney Houston, Brandy, Manhattan Transfer, The Backstreet Boys, The Spinners) came on board as Executive Producer. David Bendeth (Breaking Benjamin, Candiria, Vertical Horizon, Elvis Presley 2003 "30 #1s", Jeff Beck, Platinum Blonde) joined the ranks by lending his ears to the mixing process, as well as Eric Schilling (Shakira, Gloria Estefan, Natalie Cole, Sting, Dixie Chicks, Faith Hill, Melissa Etheridge, Whitney Houston, O-town) who also mixed tracks on the record.
It was the result of this exceptional collaboration of efforts that produced and molded what has become ScarlettsWeb's unique sound.
This album is both demanding and in demand and - above all else- not to be missed. Influenced by their love for such acts as AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Guns 'n Roses, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, NoFX, and Johnny Cash, they have combined rock's history with their own modern sensibilities and innate abilities to form a sound that is timeless. From the post-apocalyptic guitar assault of "God Bless Us" to the punk rock explosion that is "Never Too Young" to the soul-wrenching honesty exhibited in "Crash" to the rebellious cries of a new generation found in "My Life", there is an obvious demand for change.
And ScarlettsWeb is ready to step up to the plate and make this change. As a matter of fact, they have left very little undone in the laying of the groundwork for their release. Playing out as often as possible throughout the Manhattan and Tri-State area (The Tribecca Rock Club, Don Hills, The Continental, The Crock Rock, The Ausprey, The StairCase, CBGB's et. Al.), they have tuned and sharpened their act into a true barn-burning, ear-splitting, soul-searching event that could easily insight a crowd to riot. They also were able to capture their essence on film with a top-of-the-line music-video for their leading single, “My Life" shot by Raging Nation Films, LLC, and edited by My Good Eye, LLC.
With a stellar band, an exhilarating live show, an MTV-ready music-video, and a red-hot album, all that ScarlettsWeb has left to capture is their public at large… and there is no doubt they will. They will be continuing their endeavour this Summer of 2006 on the bill of the Camplified Tour joing the ranks of such acts as Fefe Dobson, the Veronicas, Fifth Year Crush, The Bloody Lovelies, Arkitekt, etc...
This album is a necessity for fans of music that is genuine, relentless, and without compromise. So long as there is enough money for gas and replacement guitar-strings, ScarlettsWeb is young, strong, and rip-roaring-ready to go. They intend to support their debut by hitting the road and tearing it up on as many stages as possible. Not surprisingly, this is where the tireless rock chanteuse feels most at home...
"There's nothing better than the feeling of performing live," Scarlett explains. "No matter how bloodied or exhausted we are, when we walk off stage there is only one thing we can think of - the next time we can walk back on."
